BOOK- THE FRAGILE THREAD OF HOPE
AUTHOR- PANKAJ GIRI
Rating - 9/10
"The Fragile Thread of Hope" by Pankaj Giri is a contemporary fiction based on love, loss, and traditionally rigid social norms. Readers get to witness the life and times of at least two generations in the hills of Gangtok.
The story begins with Fiona (a.k.a. Falguni) meeting an accident while with her husband Joseph. The first half of the book then drifts into the past where readers encounter the story of Sharon (a.k.a Shanti) who is Fiona's mother. We get a glimpse into her life of difficulties and betrayal by her own family wherein she ends up getting married to a drunkard. But there was love, at least in the beginning, for Sharon. After becoming a widow Sharon has a hard time convincing Fiona that her father had a good side too. She was concerned about seeing Fiona's general dislike towards men recalling her past incidences. All until she meets Joseph who changes everything. On the other hand is Soham, living many kilometers away from Fiona, who has an equally painful past of losing his elder brother. He starts falling in love with Shruti while in Bangalore while a general distance emerges between him and his parents. How will Soham and Fiona meet? How are their misfortunes connected? Will they be able to overcome their fears?
Every chapter of the book contains a twist that will make our heart bleed and yet stitch back again as time progresses.
